To study the moisture content of the forest soil and the soil having no mantle of vegetation, collected materials from the depth of 0cm, 10cm, 20cm and 40cm of the ground, and surveyed the moisture content of them every day or every other day, and worked this scheme continually through the four seasons.Results obtained are as follows : (1) Usually, the variation of the moisture content of the soil, in spite of the forest soil, is maximum at the surface of the ground.(2) Just after the rain, the moisture content of the soil rises suddenly, and falls hastily at first and then slowly, but at last reaches a constant value.(3) In the hot weather, the average moisture content of the forest soil is equal to that of the soil having no mantle of vegetation, and in the mild weather, the former is larger than the latter.(4) The mean value of the average moisture content of the forest soil through four seasons, is a little larger than that of the soil having no mantle of vegetation. In conclusion, it seems to be difficult to explain the function of forest conserving water-source by means of surveying the moisture content of the forest soil and the soil having no mantle of vegetation.
