Intelayer coupling in spin-valve structures has been incorporated into a micromagnetic model by means of an exchange-coupling-type term. Magnetoresistance ratios were calculated by using an electron-scattering probability model, and good agreement with experimental results was found. The problems posed by demagnetising fields in small spin-valve elements were also considered.
