Effect of Film Thickness on Magnetic properties and Microstructure for CoCrTa Media Fabricated under the Ultra Clean Sputtering Process

The effect of film thickness of magnetic layer on H_c for Co based thin film media prepared under ultra clean process (UC-CoCrTa) and normal process (n-CoCrTa) was discussed in connection with their microstructure. In the case of UC-CoCrTa media, the main factor for decrement in H_c for the media with the film thickness of 10〜16 nm is the thermal agitation. On the other hand, for n-CoCrTa, decrement in H_c is mainly caused by the insufficiencies in microstructure such as Cr segregated grain boundary structure and homogeneity in grains diameter.
