Conidia of "N type heterokaryons" were naturally generated from conidia of cycloheximide-nystatin resistant fusants between the cycloheximide resistant strains AOCY-5 and AOCY-6,derived from A. oryzae, and the nystatin resistant strains AKNY-3 and AKNY-9,derived from A. kawachii. Conidia of "N type heterokaryons" were stained by Giemsa solution to investigate the size and number of nuclei and compare with those of "R type heterokaryons" containing large nuclei induced by UV or camphor treatment from L type and M type heterokaryon conidia of fusants between AOCY-5,AOCY-6 and AKNY-3,AKNY-9.Conidia of cycloheximide-nystatin resistant sector strains, which were segregated from "N type heterokaryons" and "R type heterokaryons" on PGA plates containing 0.1-1.0 μg/ml benomyl, were also examined.In conidia of "R type heterokaryons", the number of nuclei decreased as compared with those of "N type heterokaryons" and the nuclei had various diameters.In the cycloheximide-nystatin resistant sectors generated from "R type heterokaryons" on PGA plates containing benomyl, three types of number of nulcei in conidia, A type, B type, and C type, were found and each type had various sizes of nuclei.The number of large nuclei in conidia of cycloheximide-nystatin resistant sector from "R type heterokaryons" decreased during 10 subcultivations with decreasing acid production.
