The watch industry has been trying to produce highly accurate watches keeping the time error within a few seconds during more than one year. However, the production seems not to be so easy because of the difficulty of reducing the complicated time error. The author has daily been measuring the accumulated time errors of some typical "accurate" watches for more than two years. He has found from the experimental results that the time error is composed mainly of the annual variation related to the penodic seasonal temperature change and the simple accumulation with constant rate. On the basis of this consideration, the accumulated time error is analyzed theoretically under some assumptions, and the analytical process and results are described in this paper. It should be noted that the calculated time errors agree well with the measured errors, and that the procedure of the proper frequency adjustment is established. By applying the analytical results obtained here to the watch production, the abovementioned accurate watches may be produced in the near future.
