• This paper is intended to describe four algorithms determining the knots for the variation diminishing spline function which have the shape-preserving properties. These algorithms are deduced from error estimates to the variation diminishing spline approximation methods. Our error estimates show an improvement in the rate of convergence. As an example of the application, we use the variation diminishing spline for the purpose of data reduction to electrocadiogram data.
