KUBOTA, M., HIRUMA, E. and SAKAKI, H., The Effects of Creatine Supplementation on the Jumping Power and Endurance of Volleyball Players. Abv. Exerc. Sports Physiol., Vol.9, No.3 pp.91-96, 2003. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of Cr supplementation on the intermittent vertical jumping and cycling performance of the volleyball players. Twenty-one male volleyball players who belonged to a Japan V league team (n=11) or colleciate volleyball team (n=10) participated in the present study. They were divided into a Cr or control (Cont.) group, randomly. The subjects repeated five sets of exercise test, consisting of twenty maximal vertical jumps and three bouts of maximal 10-second cycling with a braking force of 0.075kg・kg-1 body weight. Thus, the subjects underwent one hundred vertical jumps and fifteen cycling in total. They ingested Cr (20g・day-1) (Cr group) or a placebo (Cont. group) for 6 days. Following the supplementation, the subjects underwent the exercise tests, again. This study was carried out in double blind fashion. Before and after supplementation, there were no differences in jumping height and power inter-group. After Cr supplementation, mean jumping height of the twenty jumps significantly increased in the 2nd set (ANOVA), and the mean jumping power was significantly elevated at the jumping height and mean jumping power of the Cont, group significantly decreased in the 1st, 4th and 5thsets (p<0.05, 0.01). The values obtained from the maximal cycling power test were significantly increased after supplementation in the both groups but did not differ inter-group before and after supplementation. These results show that Cr supplemantation increase mean power of the initial five jumps when the volleyball players perform one hundred jumps.
