SUGIURA, H. and MIRBOD, S.M., Inpact of Two Differnt Types of Exercise on MUrine Pertioneal Macrophage Functions. Adv. Exerc. Sports Physiol., Vol.7, No.4 pp.103-109, 2001. This study investigated the influence of two different types of chronic exercise (voluntray and forced) ober 8 weeks on petitoneal macrophage functions in male ICR mice. Glucose consumption, nitirc oxide NO) and interleukin-1,3 (IL-1,3) production were determined for voluntary (wheel running, 3 days/week, T-Ex gropus; n=10) and forced (treadmill running, 12m/min for 60 min , 3 days/week, T-ex group; n=10) exercise protocols. A voluntary control gropu (V-Co group; n=8) and treadmill control group (t-Co group; n=7) were also included. after 8 weeks of ehronic exercise, the glucose consumption capacity of peritoneal macrophages cultured for 12h and 24h in the V-Ex and T-Ex groups was significantly(P<0.01) higher than those in the V-Co and T-Co groups, Compared with the V-Es group, the T-Ex group had significantly (P<0.01) higher glueose consumption capacity of peritoneal macriphages cultured for 25h. The NO and IL-1,3 production by lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated peritoneal macrophages in the V-Ex nad T-Ex groups cultured for 12h and 24h was significantly (P<0.01) higer than those in the V-Co and T-Co groups. Production of NO and IL-1,3 stimulated by LPS in the T-Ex group culterd for 12h and 24h was significanty (P<0.01) higher than those in the V-Ex group. These results indicate that 8-week voluntary running and forced running exercises enhances glucose consumption and production of NO and IL-1,2 stimulated by LPS in the peritoncal macrophages and that this enhancement was significantly higher in the forced exercise group.
