The authors are to be commended for the rigorous manner in which they have analysed the energy input to these beaches and the resultant movement of sediment. A more macroscopic view can be taken by examining the characteristics of these pocket beaches whose sediment supply has virtually been reduced to zero. Two of the authours and the writer have discussed these characteristics previously [1]. Whilst large scale maps are not currently available to the writer to predict accurately the final beach shapes it should suffice here to show trends.
