Under optimized conditions using Candida rugosa IFO 1364 grown on 1% D-sorbitol, 17. 4 mg/ml of [(2-hydroxyethyl)thio]acetic acid (HETA) was produced from 20 mg/ml of thiodiglycol (TDG) after 2 days of incubation at 30℃ in the reaction mixture. The molar conversion ratio of TDG to HETA was 78%.
