The inhibition by vitamin B_2-acid of the growth of Chattonella antiqua, the cellular life cycle of which is synchronized with the light/dark cycle, was followed spectrophotometrically. More than 3 mg・l^<-1> of vitamin B_2-acid in the culture medium of the algaeinduced a significant increase of optical density of the difference spectrum around 290 nm of the cultured medium. The increase seemed to be due to an accumulation of reduced ferredoxin caused by the inhibition of ferredoxin-NADP^+ reductase by vitamin B_2-acid.
