Studies have been carried out on the effect of L-glutamine, a component of the chemically defined medium used for gramicidin S production by Bacillus brevis. This amino acid and L-arginine are known to be rapidlyutilized for growth before sugar utilization begins. Despite its rapid utilization, glutamine does not repres fructose utilization or gramicidin S biosynthesis.
