Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissl was found to secrete neutral and alkaline proteases extracellularly. The production of proteases was maximum in Czapek Dox medium in which glucose was replaced by 5% wheat bran. Peak production was observed after 10 days of incubation under static conditions. The optimum initial pH for the production of proteases was 6.2.
