Nutrient requirements for the growth fo Candida utilis utilizing nopal fruit juice were investigated by means of the injection method into chemostat. The technique, which involves injecting a suspected growth-limiting nutrient into chemostat, was applied to identify growth-limiting substrate with a given medium composition.A starting medium composition was determined on the basis of the concentrations of individual elements in bacterial cells. The amount of each element required for 1 g biomass production was 84.8 mg N, 18.2 mg P, 3.9 mg Mg, and 2.7 mg Ca.
