The quest for sustainable development, in the post cold-war era, has been becoming the most important global development agenda. This is not just among the developed nations but also for the developing economies. Governments and societies are no exceptionally being prompted to respond to the global challenge with different policy and local initiatives. To highlight sustainable development, this paper attempts to delineate certain analytical dimensions and perspectives of global environmentalism. It focuses on the differential social science discourses on environmentalism and their relevance for the complexity of environmental problems. Section 1 addresses to the consequence of the modernity project, namely, the de-coupling of the pre-modern integration/harmony between people, technology and nature. Section 2 examines the relevance of social science concepts for understanding environmental protection in the community. The paper ends with critical remarks on the trends of global-local environmentalism in the 21^<st>-Century.
