We have confirmed the feasibility of heat removal evaluation method including the heat transfer by the natural convection in the canister for spent nuclear fuel storage. Commercial thermal hydraulic analysis program was used for this evaluation. Steady state 3-dimentional evaluations were performed on the conditions of the horizontally and the vertically placed canister. Temperature distributions by numerical calculation were compared with that from actual scale thermal tests. On vertically placed conditions, calculation results are overestimated against thermal test results because of overestimation of thermal resistance to outside the canister. But they are in good agreement on the temperature difference between canister surface and center on both vertically placed conditions and horizontally placed conditions.
