Spent fuel from Nuclear Power Stations is required to be temporally stored at Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations (ISFSI) until it is reprocessed as recycled fuel. Large capacity of ISFSI is reported to be required aiming for commencement of its operation by around 2010. The metal cask installed in ISFSI should have transport and storage functions, so-called dual-purpose cask. We has almost finished its developments of the dual-purpose cask. Simultaneously, the basic design of storage facility where the metal casks are stored is carried out. ourstorage facility takes advantage of enhancement of its capacity, which is expected to contribute to financial saving and effective utilization of the scarce land for nuclear facilities. In addition, the storage building has been designed to harmonize with landscape by reducing its height from the ground level. We also carries out the development of concrete module storage system, which has canister as a primary confinement boundary. Vault storage system which is one of the concrete module storage system is expected to be more competitive in terms of cost performance comparing to other storage systems.
