Using corrosion resistant aluminum (Al-Mg alloy A5083), constant displacement amplitude cycling tests of welded structure models and rotary bending fatigue tests of unnotched rod-shaped bar specimens taken from welded joints were carried out. Where it was assumed that a residual stress exits in the vicinity of the weld toe under the stress-based approach which incorporates stress concentration, welding residual stress, and mean stress of the structural model, it was found that there was relatively good agreement between the results of the fatigue tests conducted on the structural model and that of the rotary bending fatigue tests.
