In this paper, a newly developed structure of high speed micro rotor supported by an aerodynamic journal bearing with a floating bush is proposed. The micro rotor has a diameter of 6 mm and a width of 4 mm, and the bearing clearance is 4 μm. Herringbone grooves are formed on the rotor surface to achieve higher stability at high speeds. In addition, Coulomb friction is used in order to obtain stiffness and damping coefficient to support an floating bush. It was experimentally observed that the proposed micro rotor can stably rotate at 400,000 rpm.
