Inverter-driven multi-heat pump indicates the system that has multi-indoor unit with one compressor operated by an inverter driver. It has the benefits of energy saving and coverage of wide operating conditions. Recently, the consumption of multi-heat pump has been increased, but the data for the performance and the control algorithm of multi-heat pump are limited in the literature due to the complicated operating conditions. In the present study, the performance of an inverter-driven multi-heat pump having two indoor units was measured by varying indoor loads and electronic expansion valves (EEV) opening on cooling mode. The system consisted of one compressor, one condenser, two evaporators, and two EEVs. Based on the experimental results, the operating characteristics and capacity modulation of the inverter-driven multi-heat pump system were studied with a variation of operating conditions. The optimum combination of compressor speed and EEV opening was obtained based on the analysis of the experimental data.
