A portable air-conditioner using HFC-134a as a refrigerant has been developed and the performance evaluation has been carried out in this study. Effects have been given to reduction of the system size in order to fit in a trunk of a passenger car. Aluminum brazed heat exchangers are employed for evaporator and condenser. Effect of the components on the system performance is investigated in detail to obtain an efficient portable air-conditioner with HFC-134a. Performance of the present system is also compared with those of commercially available models. Total volume of the present system could be reduced by about 30-50% from the conventional models in the market while the system performance is almost not changed.
