Evaluation of structural integrity in the presence of crack-like defects is important because the existence of initial defects such as weld defects can not be entirely excluded. Creep is considered to be an essential driving force for crack propagation in components operated at high temperatures. There is a large amount of evidence that creep crack propagation can be well described by creep J-integral. However, evaluation of the creep J-integral by detailed numerical analysis is time-consuming and requires a high degree of expertise. A strong need exists for the development of a reliable simplified evaluation method. A simplified evaluation method for the creep J-integral is developed as a part of the flaw evaluation guideline targeted at fast reactor components. Concepts of reference stress and elastic follow-up are utilized. The evaluation method is verified by comparing with the result of finite element analysis for a cracked elbow.
