In order to develop a 9.8MPa/500℃ highly efficient waste-to-energy boiler with 30% electric efficiency, application of highly corrosion-resistant materials for superheater and corrosion-resistant coatings for waterwall are indispensable. The corrosion lives of six conventional and five newly developed tube materials and three coatings were evaluated for two years in the NEDO waste-to-energy pilot plant at Tsukui. As the results of the test, an excellent durability of more than six years for Ni-Cr-Mo alloys of tertiary superheater and for Ni-Cr-Fe alloys of secondary superheater were clarified. Particularly, an addition of Mo to Ni base alloy was effective to prevent corrosion in severe corrosive conditions. The structural stability and change in mechanical properties of alloys were also investigated. Furthermore, the effect of corrosion factors that important to design the plant, ie. soot blower effect, gas/metal temperature, time dependence of corrosion etc. were clarified quantitatively.
