Simple process to cast aluminum alloy ingots for thixo-forming was devised. The process consisted of a roll and a nozzle. The nozzle was attached to lower side of the roll. Semi-solid slurry was made from melt using this process. The primary crystal of the ingot that was cast from semi-solid slurry became globular only after reheating up to semi-solid temperature. And eutectic Si became globular, too. Lubricant was not used on the roll surface, but sticking of the solidified metal did not occur. Superheat of AC4CH melt was 50℃. Roll speed was at the range from 0 to 60 m/min. Nozzle-roll gap was 2,4 and 6 mm. Contact length between the roll and the melt was 15 and 30 mm.
