Changes of glucose metabolism in the liver by the anaphylactic shock was studied. The shock was experimentally induced in dogs by the sensitization of the dogs with egg albumine. The pfortal vein blood and the hepatic vein blood was separately and successively collected using hepatic catheters in order to investigate changes in the liver exclusively. After the anaphylactic shock the blood glucose in pfortal vein blood decreased at first then slightly increased, while it markedly increased in the hepatic vein blood. In other words, glucose was released from the liver by the anaphylactic shock. The pyruvic acid increased in the pfortal vein blood, and it decreased in the hepatic vein blood at first, then slightly increased. The marked increase of lactic acid was observed in the both of pfortal and hepatic vein blood. Citric acid was decreased both in the pfortal and hepatic vein blood. Serum potassium increased remarkably in the hepatic vein blood after the shock. Serum inorganic phosphorus was not significantly changed in the pfortal vein blood but it increased in the hepatic vein blood after the shock. These data suggest the increase of anaerobic glycolysis in the liver by the anaphylactic shock.
