In order to investigate the antigenicity of extracts from Turbo cornutus in tissue allergy. several experiments were performed in rabbits using the mixture of Turbo extracts and liver phosphatide for sensitization and reinjection. After the reinjection, severe anemia and the disturbances in liver function were observed, as Cobalt-, Lugol-and C.C.F.- tests became positive and urinary urobilinogen increased. Remarkable histological changes in the liver were seen, i.e. the swelling of liver cells, pale cytoplasm with many granules and vacuoles. It is thought that Turbe extracts have higher affinity for liver cells in tissue allergy than ox serum, and that the different degree of the affinity between Turbo extracts and ox serum may be due to higher contents of mucoplysaccharides in Turbo extracts than in ox serum. The anemia observed after reinjection had hypoplastic characters in nature, but partly some hemolytic pattern, was seen.
