Plastic deformation of metallic material with elliptic inclusion is studied using the rigid-plastic finite element method. A plane model of material with inclusions is assumed. The effects of the aspect ratio, the yield stress ratio and the volume fraction of the inclusions on the deformation behaviour are studied. The results show that the deformation mode is much affected by the aspect ratio of the model. The relationship between the deformation mode and the applied stress necessary for the deformation is discussed. The effect of crystal slip is also studied by incorporating the Bishop-Hill theory of crystal slip into the rigid-plastic finite element analysis.
