The bending fatigue strength and the bending fatigue breakage of straight bevel gears of Gleason type were investigated by carrying out bending fatigue tests (Wohler method) using a bevel gear pulsator of hydraulic type. The bending fatigue limit loads were also determined using the progressive load increase methods proposed by Prot, Henry and others, which consist in testing a few specimens raising the stress in equal increment until finally the specimen breaks, and they were compared with those obtained by Wohler method. Furthermore the existing equations of the bending strength for straight bevel gears were compared on the basis of the experimental results.
