The present paper is concerned with the coupled thermoelastic problem for an infinite circular solid cylinder, whose surface is heated by heat transfer from medium at uniform temperature T_1℃. The body is supposed to be initially undisturbed. The following two cases are investigated : (1) The cylinder is free from loading, (2) The axial displacement of the cylinder is constrained and the cylindrical surface is free from external force. By means of the Laplace transformation an exact solution in the form of infinite series is obtained. Further, we examine the asymptotic behaviour of the solution for small time values. Numerical calculations are carried out for the cases of various values of the coefficient of heat transfer. Results are compared with that in the absence of thermoelastic coupling and its effect is considered.
