The present study deals With the measurement of the unsteady drag on an oscillating sphere in a uniform flow. Two dynamic load transducers with high sensitivity were made for measuring the unsteady drag. These devices were proved to be useful by measuring the steady drag and the inertial force of the moving part. The time lapse of the drag and the dependence of its amplitude on parameters are shown in the case where the oscillating motion of the sphere strongly affects the flow. Furthermore, the effects of inertia and viscosity on the unsteady drag are discussed.
