The temperature and the strain effects upon the strength of zinc single crystals were investigated experimentally in the following three cases ; (1) when only the basal slip can be operative, (2) when both the basal slip and the mechanical twinning can be operative and (3) when both the basal slip and the pyramidal slip can be operative. Results are summarized as follows : The static strength in almost all cases decreases with an increase of temperature. On the other hand, the dynamic strength in creases with a rising temperature in the case of (1) and also increases in some case of (2), when the basal slip is followed by the mechanical twinning. In the case of (3), the dynamic strength at small strain has similar dependency to that observed for the basal slip at high strain rate, while the strength at large strain decreases with an increase of temperature.
