The mechanical ratcheting is analyzed by using an anisotropic hardening plastic potential and its associated flow rule. The results are compared with the experimental results obtained from the tests which are conducted by subjecting thin-walled tubular specimens of brass to combined axial load, internal pressure and torsion. The calculated results show fairly well, both qualitatively and quantitatively, the characteristic feature of the fluctuation of the ratcheting strain observed in the devia-toric strain space. Discussion is also made on the effects of the steady stress values, cyclic strain amplitude, and the number of cycles on the ratcheting strain accumulation.
