The nematocysts related to the life cycles of four species of hydromedusae, Stirsia tubnlosa (M. Sars), Polyorchis karafutoenis Kishinouye, Eperetmus typus Bigelow and Gonioneinus oshoro Uchida have been investigated. The medusae of Sarsia tiibidosa and Polyorchis karafutoensis have similar kinds of the nematocysts (Tables 1 and 2). The exumbrellar nematocysts of the young medusae in the both species are microbasic mastigophores. Moreover the presence of stenoteles and desmonemes in Polyorchis karafutoensis shows the characteristics of the Capitata from the distribution of the nematocysts. In their life cycles the youngest medusae of Polyorchis kamfutoeiisis pass the Siirsia like stage. These facts suggest that there is some affinity between the two species in spite of the great difference in their adult medusae. The nematocysts through the whole life cycles of the two olindiadiid species, Eperelmns typus and Gonionemus oshoro show the similar combinations (Tables 3 and 4). In the both species macrobasic eurytelcs are found on the exumbrella of the young medusae. This fact is a peculiar character in the members of the Olindiadidae and it is suggested that, as pointed out by Werner(1965), there is relatively close affinity between the Olindiadidae and the Proboscidactylidae which has macrobasic euryteles through the whole life..
