異なる製法による高純度αアルミナ・サブミクロン粉末の骨格振動域におけるフーリエ変換赤外分光

Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) transmission spectra of six commercially available α-alumina powders produced by two different production methods, i.e., in-situ chemical vapor deposition and hydrolysis of aluminum alkoxide are measured in the 400-1000 cm^<-1> of infrared wavenumber region. Distinctive peaks are detected at 473, 626 and 703 cm^<-1> wavenumbers in the spectra of the powders produced by in-situ chemical vapor deposition. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation of the powders shows a significant shape difference between the powders, where the powders produced by in-situ chemical vapor deposition seem to have more regular and nearer to spherical shape than the others. The differences in spectra are explained by the generalized theory of average dielectric constant considering influence of the spherical shape of the powder particles on the FT-IR transmission spectra.
