感染がなく脳室側シャントカテーテルの閉塞によりシャント不全になった症例で脳室側カテーテルを走査、透過電子顕微鏡で観察した。カテーテル内腔に沿って円柱状に閉塞されていた。一部カテーテルの外と側腔を通って繋がっていた。閉塞物の自由表面には微絨毛がみられ、横断面では多数の血管を認め主に脈絡叢と考えられた。また活性化されたfibroblastを多く認め、閉塞物がカテーテル中で増大するための重要な役割を担っていると考えられた。
