The hormone which exists in the urine, blood and placenta tissues of pregnant women, or patients suffering from hydatidiform mole and malignant chorionepithelioma, and makes the pregnancy test positive in some species of rodentia injected with it was named the "Trophoblast-hormone". In the present study this hormone was applied for clinical use. The results obtained are as follows : Part 1. 1) T.B.H. was extracted from the urine of pregnant women or patients suffering from hydatidiform mole and malignant chorionepitherioma in high units and in the form available for clinical use. This is a white powder, water-soluble and durable, with neither undesirable local nor general effects following injection. 2) Following the injection of T.B.H. corpora lutea have been formed in the ovary of the patient suffering from uterine cancer. The minimum amount of the T.B.H. required for the artificial formation of corpora lutea was estimated 150 follicle units. 3) The mechanism of the formation of the artificial corpora lutea is believed to be such that there occurs first the congestion and the luteinization of theca cells and then bleeding in the theca layer or into the liquor folliculi. 4) After injection of T.B.H. the amount of pregnanediol excreted in the urine was determined. Even in the follicular phase, the excretion of pregnanediol was observed, which may be probably attributable to the formation of the artificial corpora lutea. Part 2. 1) For genital bleeding due to clinically diagnosed metropathia hemorrhagica, T.B.H. is completely effective. Accordingly, administration of T.B.H. has to some extent a diagnostic value for metropathia hemorrhagica. 2) For vomiting of pregnancy it is also effective, but for excessive vomiting of pregnancy (hyperemesis) ineffective. 3) For secretion of mammary gland, T.B.H. has some transitory, but favorable effect. 4) For primary or secondary amenorrhea, it is effective to some extent, except after x-ray castration. 5) For threatened abortion, it has a remarkably good effect. 6) Administration of T.B.H. does not inhibit either the ovulation or the fertility, as is revealed by the measuring of the basal body temperature.
