Unsteady evaporation from liquid surface was studied based upon a linearizedkinetic model equation which yielded the thirteen moments correct. The kineticmodel equation was reduced to a steady state equation with the aid of Laplacetransformation and the resultant equation was solved, using the half-range Hermitepolynomials. A quasisteady solution as t=cc was obtained for a constant liquidtemperature. The results showed a good agreement with the ones derived from a ther-modynamic consideration. For descending (or ascending for condensation) liquidtemperature the variation in the temperature in the vapor phase induced a retardationof vapor motion and consequently no quasi-steady evaporation took place in thiscase. The results indicated that the presure controlled evaporation reduced to the heatflux controlled evaporation as the time elapsed.
