Probability distribtrtion f'trnctions (PDFs) of' x'e1ocit5x fltrcttrations in a 2-d vibrated bed ofgrantrlar taaaterials are sttrdied ntrnaerically trsing a viscoelastic particle tnodel. The PDF ofhorizotatal velocity is closely related to the packing detasity (P.D.) of particles. At low P.D.,particles naove randorauly and tlaeir naaotions are trncorrelztted, atad tlue distribtrtion is Gatrssian.At high P.D., particle taaotions are correlated, and the PDF becotaaes a non-Gsrtrssian distribtrtionxvith an exponential tail. Tlae fiatness f'actor of velocitv flttcttrattiotas is calcttlated as a f'trnctionof P.D.. and contiratrotts trarasition f'rotaa Gatussistn to nota-Gatrssian distrilcution is obserxved.
