Critical properties of the spin-l bond-alternating XXZ cltain are sttrdied ntttaaerically. Thismodel is appropriate to study the VBS picttrre and hidden Z7 x Z7 syuaautaetry concerning tothe Haldane gap problern. The possible phases are the ferromagnetic, the XY, the Haldane,the ditauer and the Neel ones. The critic?t1 properties of this uaaodel can be itaterpreted as theAsl?kin-Teller type reflecting the hiddert .2'2 x Z2 syraanaetry. The phase transitions are of' theBerezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thotrless type (XY-Haldane and XY-diraaer), of the 2D Gattssian type(Haldane-dimer), and of the 2D Ising type (Haldane-Neel and dirauer-Neel). We detertnine thephase botrndary and trnix'ersality class trsing the recent developed techniqtres by the atrtlaors.
