An anisotropic effect of structural constituents in random mixtures on the effectiveconductivity o' and the percolation threshold f.. is investigated by applying the effec-tive medium theory to an aggregate of ellipsoidal entitles, where they are treated asstructural elements. The geometrical anisotropy of conducting elements considerablyaffects the behavior of o', in comparison with that of insulati ng elements. By enhanc-ing that anisotropy, o" is largely increased, particularly around f,., and accordingly,f,. is decreased to the zero value. This indicates that a metal-insulator mixture, ifmetallic elements are extremely elongated in shape, is conductive, even at very lowvolume fractions of the metal phase.
