Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of the Sea.- centers in KD.(Se0.),demonstrate that the phase transition in this system is associated with an orderingof the 0-H(2)--0 hydrogens and a small rotation of the Se03 groups aroundthe o-axis with the angle of rotation being proportional to the order parameter.The ferroelastic transition is thus triggered by a soft optic deuteron-lattice modeof B.. symmetry inducing the acoustic C.. instability.
