Equatioz?s for an irreversible nonlinear network, which is equivalent toVolterra's competition equations, are solved by the inverse scattering naethod.The duality satisfied by the equations play an essential role not only in formulatingthe inverse method but also in finding solutions. 7V-soliton solutions obtainaed arein agreement with ]l-Iirota and Satsuma's. The relation to ,V-soliton solutions ofthe Toda lattice is g;iven explicitly.
