The decay properties of ^<178g,m>Lu were studied by using a high resolution Ge(Li) γ-ray spectrometer, and the half lives of the ground and isomeric states (〜300keV) were determined to be 30±1 and 23±1min, respectively. The ground state (1+) decays to the ground state (0+) and to the 1st excited state (2+, 93.1keV) of ^<178>Hf with β-rays of 2.05MeV (60%, log ft = 6.6) and of 1.96MeV (20%, log ft = 6.9), respectively. Weak β-branches from ^<178g>Lu to the 1.272MeV (4%), 1.407MeV (5%) and 1.440MeV (10%) levels in ^<178>Hf were also found. The isomeric state (7-) populates two 8- states at 1.147MeV (85%, log ft = 5.35) and 1.479MeV (15%, log ft = 5.6). The γ-rays observed at 332, 88.8, 426, 326, 213.5 and 93.1keV correspond to the transitions 8-→8-→8+→6+→4+→2+→0+ in ^<178>Hf. The configuration of the ground and isomeric states were considered as 1+, 7/2+(404)p-9/2+(624)n, and 7-, 7/2+(404)p+7/2-(514)n, respectively.
