Magnetic Properties of a Quantum Ferrimagnet : NiCu (pba)(D_2O)_3・2D_2O

• We report the results of' magnetic measurenaents on a powder sample of NiCtt(pba)(11)30)32020 (pba:1,3-propylenebis(oxaunato)) which is one of the prototypical exaznples of an ,5=l/2and l ferrimagnetic chain. Susceptibility(,)) shows a monotonous increase with decreasing temperature (T) and reaches a maxiraatrna at abotrt 7 K. In the plot of yT versus T, the experitnentaldata exhibit a broad rninimurn and are fit to the X'Z' ctrrve calculated for the ferrirnagnetic Heisenberg chain composed of .5:1/2 and l. From this fit, we have evaltrated the nearest-neighborexchange constant ,7/An:121 K, the :-values of Ni" and Ctt", ctu?=2.22 and vc.=2.O9, resrec-tively. Applied external field dependence of 'gT at low tetnperattrres is reprodtuced fairly well bythe calctnlation ['or the same ferrinaagnetic znodel.
