Fluctuation Effect on the Linear Birefrinegence Behavior near the Normal-Incommensurate Phase Transition of A_2BX_4 Type Crystals

Linear birefringence behavior of Rbz ZI1Cl4, K2 ZIlCl4, and [N (CH3)4]2 ZnCl,j were studied in thecritical region of the normal-incornznensurate phase transition. Exisence of' linear birefringencetail above the transition tenaperattrre was observed. It was ascribed to the fluctuation effect onthe linear birefringence. Results of scaling analysis inuply that the exponent of LB behavior isnot 1 - a but 2f3, contrary to the previous LB sttmdy. Contribution of the flucttration to linearbirefringence behavior is discttssed conaparing to XRD experiments.
