Linear birefringence behavior of [NH3 C3H7]2MI1Cl4 was measured near normal-incornmensuratephase transitions, i.e., p-7 and (5-C transitions. Linear birefringence behaved as An.5 xt?""""' in the critical region of the two phase transitions. These restrlts imply that twonormal-incommensurate phase transitions belong to the same universality class of the 3-d XYmodel. In addition, linear birefringence behavior in the incomrnensurate 7 phase is also discussedwhile comparing it to the previous theoretical description based on classical Landau theory.
