The phosphorescence qtranttutn yield Ip (:einsteins etnitted/einsteins a1.csorbed by sensitizer)of singlet oxygen ('03) NV21S naeastrred f'or an air-sattrrated CCI,j soltrtion of phenalenone (PH)ttsed as 21 photosensitizer, by means of a photon-cotrrnting technique based on the trse of a near-II-sensitive photomultiplier. Erraploytnent of steady-state excitation allowed for the determinationof the absoltrte quanttrrn yield of Op:(1.38:E0.05)xl0 ' in CCl4. The restrlt was obtainedby direct cornparison of the areas under the corrected etaaission spectra of ' Op and of quininebistrlfate (QBS) in 1.V H2S04 as a lunainescetace standard.
