A thermal diffusion process is disctrssed, that shotrld be expected in any system in whichthe difference in the local susceptibilities .'r - X' is inhornogeneotts, where the strperscriptsindicate isothernaal and adiabatic processes, That constitutes an universal secondary responseof disordered systems which nnust be considered in con.jtrnction with the prirnary "mechanical"response. The response function dtre to thermal difl'usion behaves asyraaptotically as e """"for short times and as t "' for long times, btrt can be interpolated by e """"' for a wide rangeof times around T. The thernnal diffttsion process can be partictrlarly relevant in the response ofrnagnetic glasses, electric dipole glasses, and in rnultidonaairr ferroelectric/ferrounagnetic systeznswith more than two domain orientations.
