Optical Absorption and Luminescence Spectra of Pb^<2+>-Aggregated Centers in CdI_2

Change in absorption and lutninescence spectra with the concentration of Pb ions doped ina CdI3 crystal is investigated Lip to a few rnoJ'7. Absorption bands due to dimmaer, trimmerand further aggregated centers are fottnd to appear in tlte low energy side of Pb" monomerabsorption band. Excitation in these absorption bands indttces the luminescence from relaxedexcited states in the respective centers xvhose peak energy decr'eases with increase in the size ofaggregated centers. Further increase in the conceratration beyond 5 rtto1%, gives rise to an edgeItrnuinescence arising from an excitonic state formed in Pblz clusters.
