Theoretical study is made on the two-dimensional steady thermal convection in aviscous fluid confined between two horizontal concentric cylinders. Temperature onthe cylinder walls is distributed so that it varies linearly in the direction of gravity. The Boussinesq approximation is adopted, and first order perturbed fields fromsteady heat conduction state are examined. Four types of thermal convections withcellular structure are found, and dependences of critical Rayleigh numbers on thethickness of annular region are given for these types. Typical flow and temperaturefields corresponding to these critical modes are shown.
